Two Unattended Deaths in Kodiak’s Harbors

Two bodies were found on two separate fishing vessels in two Kodiak harbors on Friday. Police Chief T.C. Kamai said there were no signs of trauma on either body, leading some to speculate they may be drug related, but Kamai said that can’t be confirmed until a toxicology screening is complete.
Police responded to the first report of an unattended death on board a fishing boat in St. Herman Harbor at 2:22 a.m. on Friday. Kamai said David Babarovich, 44, was pronounced deceased at that location.
The second call came in about 12 hours later at 2:37 p.m. Kamai said this time police responded to a vessel that was moored in St. Paul Harbor. Upon arrival, Thaddeus Zdobylak Jr., 41, was also pronounced dead at the scene.
Kamai said both bodies have been sent to the state medical examiner’s office for a full autopsy. He said preliminary causes of death could be released within a few days, but even then the results will be incomplete until a full toxicology is done to both bodies. He said those results could take a few weeks.
Kamai said he doesn’t have anything that would lead him to believe the deaths were related, and at this time the police department is approaching them as two separate investigations.
