Karluk Sports Sockeye Bagl Limit Increased

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game is liberalizing another sports fishery around Kodiak Island due to the exceptionally strong sockeye salmon run this year.
As of 12:01 Saturday morning, anglers in the Karluk River drainage can now take 10 red salmon a day, with 10 in possession.
In a statement Friday, Kodiak Area Management Biologist Donn Tracy said the strong run will likely exceed the upper end of the escapement goal for the early run sockeye. The range is 110,000 to 250,000 fish, and over 140,000 have already passed the Karluk River weir.
The expanded bag limit is in effect through July 15th.
