The Alaska Fisheries Report

Coming up this week, Southeast nets went in the water on Sunday and fishermen are expecting a big pink return this year; it turns out genetically engineered salmon might be able to breed with wild stock if they ever got out, and bringing Alaska seafood to the world, and the world to Kodiak.
Before we wrap up the show, a rare and brief editorial note: We are aware that two of our stories this week dealt with organizations that directly and generously support the Alaska Fisheries Report. Here in the AFR Newsroom, we do everything we can to stay away from the money side of things where we have little input and no business being. And we do our best to take the middle path when we inevitably have to include stories about those underwriters in the show. Financial support does not buy anyone a story on the Alaska Fisheries Report, and it certainly doesn’t guarantee any story that gets in will be seen in a positive light by those underwriters. We hope they, and you, understand.
And that’s all for this week’s edition of the Alaska Fisheries Report. We couldn’t have done it without KTOO’s Lisa Phu in Juneau and KMXT’s Brianna Gibbs in Kodiak.
