City Mayor, Two Council Seats Up For Election

Brianna Gibbs/KMXT

Earlier this week KMXT told you about a number of borough positions opening up for the fall election. Those include two borough assembly seats and the office of borough mayor. On the city side of things, Mayor Pat Branson’s term also expires this year, which adds another mayoral opening come October. Likewise, the seats of Councilmen John Whiddon and Charlie Davidson are up for election.
Those interested in running for city mayor must be at least 30-years-old and have lived within the city for a full year. Folks seeking a council position must have also lived within the city for a full year and be at least 21-years-old.
City Clerk Debra Marlar said nominating petitions and candidates’ handbooks will be available in the clerk’s office on Monday. The filing period begins on August 1 and wraps up on the 15. This year’s election will be on October 1.
