Kodiak has a new harbormaster, but he’ll be a very familiar face. Lon White, who started with the Harbormaster’s office 32 years ago, was named today (Monday) to the post by City Manager Aimee Kniaziowski. White will assume his official duties on Wednesday.
White joined the city in 1982 as a harbor officer. He was promoted to Deputy Harbormaster 19 years ago; at about the same time his soon-to-be predecessor Marty Owen was hired.
White is the current president of the Pacific Coast Congress of Harbormasters & Port Managers and is a 20-year member of the Alaska Association of Harbormaster & Port Administrators.
In a release, the city manager said White will be a valued asset to the city.
