KI Owner to Build New Hotel

The Best Western Kodiak Inn and Convention Center will soon build itself a sister hotel just a short distance away. Susan Johnson is the Kodiak Inn’s owner and says the new building will be a separate hotel, but will be an affiliate of the Kodiak Inn.

“It was originally a project that my dad was looking at – Jack Johnson – and never quite got around to and then my husband and I bought the place, the hotel last year and it was just kind of something that we’re ready to do. It’ll be right on the section of Rezanoff and up Alder Street, so there’s kind of some area there that we’re gonna nestle a few more rooms into.”

She says the current plan for the building includes 35 rooms and a fitness center, and hungry patrons will be able to walk down the street if they’d like to dine at the Best Western’s Chart Room Restaurant.

“We just got another revision from our architect, so the planning is coming well with kind of the building design and we’re into the civil engineering part and kind of getting the rooms – the most rooms with the views is kind of the goal there too.”

She says they plan to break ground this spring and imagine opening the hotel in summer 2017.
