ADF&G Closing Pasagshak River to Sockeye Angling

Low escapement of sockeye salmon to a popular Kodiak road system river will result in its closing at a minute past midnight on Saturday morning. That announcement was made Thursday morning by the Kodiak office of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.

With just 373 sockeye salmon counted at the Pasagshak River weir as of Wednesday, Fish and Game biologists do not think that the system’s escapement goal of 3,000 fish will be attained without restrictions on sport harvest.

The Pasagshak sockeye closure is in effect until further notice. It may be modified or lifted by subsequent emergency order if weir counts improve and indicate the escapement goal will be achieved.
