The Kodiak Public Library has been managed by Katie Baxter for the past five years until the City of Kodiak put her on administrative leave at the end of March. Recently, the decision on whether Baxter would return to her job was made.
Katie Baxter is no longer the director of the Kodiak Public Library, according to the City of Kodiak. This comes after Baxter was put on administrative leave almost a month ago. She’s served as the director of Kodiak’s Library for about five years and helped oversee its transition from the A. Holmes Johnson Memorial Library to its new building located on Egan Way.
Some who worked with her say she brought a lot of new ideas to Kodiak’s library and was the great director, others though paint a different picture. Past library employees and community members told KMXT Baxter could make patrons feel unwelcome at times and was known to mistreat employees.
The City of Kodiak would not comment on the circumstances of Baxter’s departure from her position. KMXT reached out to Baxter, but she didn’t respond by the airing of this story.
