The Kodiak Island Borough Assembly looked at a rezoning of a Larsen Bay lodge at its regular meeting last week.

According to borough staff, a former Larsen Bay mayor brought the borough’s attention to a zoning issue with the lodge. It’s a business, but currently located in a residential zone. The lodge owner has since been trying to change the lot’s zoning in order to come into compliance.

In 2017, the Planning and Zoning Commission held a hearing about the plan change and, according to borough documents, 11 community members opposed the rezone. P & Z eventually recommended that the assembly approve the change, and the ordinance to do that came before the assembly last week.

The two ordinances that apply to the lot both advanced to public hearing at a future meeting.
