Borough Assembly considers its ‘Wish List’ for state funding

Four of five top projects deal with schools

Other is fixing drainage at Sgt. Creek and Chiniak Highway

The Kodiak Island Borough Assembly meets tonight to discuss, among other things, the borough’s wish list of capital projects it hopes the state will fund.

It is worth noting that four of the top five projects deal with schools.

Number one is repair and replace Peterson Elementary School’s roof.

Number two would fix the traffic flow problems at East Elementary School.

Number three is non-school related. It is funding to fix the drainage and flooding problems where the Chiniak Highway meets Sgt. Creek Road, near the Russian River.

Project number four on the state funding list is a safe pathway to North Star Elementary School.

And the number five project would provide push-button crosswalk warning lights, that would allow a person to push the button to in order to stop traffic so they can cross Rezanof Drive. These would be at Rezanof and Powell near the Middle School and Main Elementary, and at Benny Benson and Rezanof, near East and Kodiak College.

There’s one public hearing scheduled on proposed budget adjustments. It is for an ordinance to account for expenses that were unexpected when the Assembly passed the budget.

The two items under Unfinished Business were discussed at length when they came up previously. The first is a proposal to offer a 55-year lease to Service District One. The other is the contract with the City of Kodiak for building permit services.

Tonight’s meeting begins at 6:30 at the borough assembly chambers and will be broadcast live at KMXT.
