Events new and old at this weekend’s rodeo and state fair — |Schedule at Bottom of Story

This is Labor Day weekend, which means it’s time for the Kodiak State Fair and Rodeo at the fairgrounds in Bells Flats.

Activities this year include a number of old favorites as well as new events.

Gates open at noon on Saturday with events as diverse as pony rides for the kid, a fashion show of antique clothes, a rocket building class, and a bee hive demonstration.

Sunday they’ll launch those rockets built on Saturday, as well as make root beer and have a wool spinning demonstration. Gates open at 11 a.m. for Cowboy Church, with regular activities beginning at noon.

There are plenty of other events for adults and children–and food trucks as well as vendors.

Sadie McCusker and Julie Kavanagh, members of the rodeo and fair board. They spoke during a special Thursday Edition of Talk of the Rock.

Others will be showing their skills in crafts, farming, cooking and more. In addition to the 4-H exhibits the public gets a chance to compete with their own entries.
