Jay Barrett/KMXT Reaction is still coming in over the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision Wednesday to cut the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill punitive damages to less than one-tenth the original jury award. Kodiak’s delegation to the state capital were not happy with the decision.

Jay Barrett/KMXT The motorized boating season on Kodiak’s Island Lake opened last week. After months of back and forth last fall, the borough assembly worked out a compromise that gave motorboat and jet ski users three days a week to enjoy the small lake surrounded by homes on Kodiak’s north side.

Casey Kelly/KMXT In Kodiak, home of the largest fishing fleet affected by the Exxon Valdez spill, fishermen and others are reacting with disappointment to yesterday’s news from the Supreme Court. Many were counting on a higher award to help them pay for things like retirement and upgrading their boats. KMXT’s Casey Kelly has more.

Casey Kelly/KMXT When the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly meets tomorrow night (tonight) in a work session, it’ll receive an update from the school district on its plans for a new Kodiak High School building.

City Manager Linda Freed informed the city council at last night’s work session that the estimated price tag for the facility has soared to 22-point-8 million dollars, about twice the projected cost from less than a year ago.
