With The Next Page closing, Kodiak only has Monk’s Rock, which is a specialty bookstore. Lechner says running a small business in Kodiak has been no small feat.

Lechner says that she’s been trying to sell the bookstore for about a year but hasn’t received any serious offers.

Lechner still has children at home and is looking forward to the more stable life of a non-business owner, though she says she will miss the joys of working with people everyday, especially young readers.

(NextPage 4 :20 "They’re always the most excited … I see it everyday.")

The store will remain open until the end of the year. Lechner says that everything is for sale: books, shelves, and fixtures.
