Kodiak’s funky weather with its repeated thawing and cooling cycles makes the local mountainous area prime conditions for avalanches. The Kodiak Island Search and Rescue is hosting an avalanche awareness workshop Friday evening
Nick Szabo is a KISAR member. He spoke with KMXT’s Maggie Wall:

If you spend any time in the backcountry and want to avoid avalanches — or to be able to rescue a companion caught in one – consider attending Friday night’s (tonight’s) avalanche awareness workshop at Bayside Firehall beginning at 7:00. The classes are free of charge.
Szabo says the trainers will spend Friday at Kodiak High School teaching students about avalanches.
