A detailed "float plan" left with friends and family resulted in a short search and a quick rescue for two Cold Bay men this (Monday) morning.

The men were on a beachcombing trip to Izembek Lagoon on Sunday when they were reported missing by a family member.

An Air Station Kodiak MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew were dispatched from the cutter Monroe after the Coast Guard received a call just before midnight Sunday. The two men were found 11 miles northwest of Cold Bay after a brief search. The men were hoisted off the beach by the helicopter just about 3 this (Monday) morning. They were returned to Cold Bay with no injuries reported.

Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Jeffrey Roberto at the District 17 command center said the detailed float plan the two men filed resulted in the quick rescue.

Winds were light and the temperature was around freezing at the time of the rescue.
