The body of a Kodiak Coast Guardsman from Maine who went missing while hiking Saturday has been recovered.
Officials say 20-year-old Derek Winn Russell’s body was found Tuesday on Barometer Mountain, about 1,000 feet below where skid marks in the snow and his ice ax were found at the 2,200-foot level.
Russell was last seen at about 10 a.m. Saturday as he left the Coast Guard base where he was stationed to hike trails on the mountain.
Russell was from Hollis Center, Maine and joined the Coast Guard in June.
