Lloyd Sees Pattern in Fishery Vacancies

Earlier this week the state legislature did not confirm Vince Webster for reappointment to the Board of Fisheries, meaning the governor must now select another appointee for the empty seat. But Kodiak fishery advisor Denby Lloyd told the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly and City Council the empty board seat could follow what seems to be a pattern of surprise appointments to various fishery regulatory bodies.

Lloyd said the loss of Webster, who was a commercial fisherman from Bristol Bay, further shook up the voting composition of the board.

Proposals to the Board of Fisheries for that cycle were due yesterday and Lloyd said it is rumored that a number of interesting proposals were submitted for consideration.

He said those proposals won’t become public until July, and he will review them and report back to both the borough assembly and city council.
