Hydrant Testing Muddies the Waters

For two weeks beginning Monday (June 13), the City of Kodiak Fire Department and Public Works Department will be performing fire hydrant testing and maintenance.

The testing will be preformed through out the city, and during those times water system customers may see discolored water coming from the tap. The city says all water – even if it is discolored, is treated, disinfected city water, and while it may be aesthetically unpleasant it meets all state and federal drinking water standards.

The city suggests running cold tap water into the bathtub or from another fixture without an aerator until it clears. Avoid using the washing machine until the water has cleared.

Residents with any questions or those who may have any special needs should call the Kodiak Public Works Department at 486-8060 or the Kodiak Fire Department at 486-8040.
