Talk of the Rock: Developing New Tsunami Evacuation Maps

One hundred feet isn’t high enough for tsunami evacuation in Kodiak.

Scientists know a lot more about potential quakes and the amount of devastation they could cause as they send massive tsunamis toward shore.

The Kodiak Island Borough is preparing to redraw the evacuation maps based on the new inundation zones.

They hope to have new evacuation maps done by late spring 2019.

We also discussed emergency preparation and the need for three weeks worth of supplies on hand in case of a disaster. Not the three days or one week we often hear. Here in Kodiak, with the chance of losing the airport and docks, three weeks is recommended.
