Chiniak Highway Now Open

Diana Gish/KMXT Around 7:30 Saturday night The Department of Transportation announced that the road between Lash Dock and the fairgrounds was re-opened. Due to Friday night’s storm, two large mudslides forced closure of the road between those locations. Road crews had been working since Friday afternoon to clear the slides. State Association Honors Lundquist

Critical Habitat Designated for Sea Otters

The areas span from the end of the Aleutians to the Alaska Peninsula and mostly include near-shore areas that are less than 20 meters deep and kelp beds. Kodiak’s New Boatlift Now Operational

Diana Gish/KMXT The Kodiak boatlift is now in use. The long awaited new addition started lifting boats this weekend. One of the first boats to be pulled out of the water by the new lift was a shrimp boat called the Victory.
