After falling victim to arson this summer, the Kodiak ice rink reopened Monday night after extensive repairs to the structure, floor and cooling system.
Corey Gronn, the interim rink manager, says the reopening was well-received.
City Manager Aimee Kniaziowski said the city was lucky to only miss about a month of skating after the fire did so much damage. She said the skating public has been very understanding during the repair period, which involved replacing some of the cooling system embedded in the concrete.

Gronn said the rink will be running on a limited schedule to start with, with some programs starting now, and others once a full time rink supervisor is brought on board.
One of the items definitely on the schedule is KMXT’s Annual Skate With Santa Party, which will be Friday evening at 6 p.m. We’ll have prizes, hot cocoa and the jolly old elf himself strapping on the skates.
