Happy Birthday, US Coast Guard — 229 years of service

On Aug. 4, 1790 Congress authorized Secretary Alexander Hamilton’s proposal to build new revenue cutters. Those 10 original vessels were the beginning of the Revenue Cutter Service, which is now the U.S Coast Guard. Group raising money this weekend for food for elderly who lost Senior Benefits in budget cuts

A lot of Kodiak residents are feeling the pain of Governor Mike Dunleavy’s line-item vetoes. One group is low income senior citizens. The Senior Benefits Program was cut entirely effective July 1.
